We are always evolving and are starting to undertake business in such areas as classroom management and recruiting services, and making the most of web and mobile technologies, and expanding to follow-up services after course completion.

Introducing high-quality products that bring comfort and convenience to people's lives by means of our in-store sales of CDs in addition to our mail-order sales of such items as publications, music and culture-related books, DVDs, CDs, and audio equipment through direct marketing.

New business

In 2010 we established our New Business Division with a focus on providing career improvement support services for corporate staff. We have various surveys and research aimed at overseas expansion also in progress. We aim to increase the activity channel of U-CAN and further expand the two existing-businesses.

1954 Jun

Founded as Tokyo Doll Academy in Shoto, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.

1955 Dec

Established correspondence education division at Tokyo Doll Academy.
Started Japanese Doll Course.

1958 May

Tokyo Doll Academy authorized as a miscellaneous vocational school in Tokyo.

1963 Apr

Constructed a school building in Takadanobaba, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, and relocated the academy there.

1967 Apr

Established Japan Handicrafts Center Inc. in Ichigaya, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.

1968 Aug

Established Japan Flower Arrangement Association Inc. in Sugamo, Toshima-ku, Tokyo.

1973 Apr

Started transcription skills course.

1974 Feb

Merged concerned corporations, and changed name to Japan Correspondence Education Federation.

1976 Jun

Started music courses.

1978 Feb

Started mail-order sales of music-related products.

Started courses for obtaining qualifications.

Oct

Started art courses, and held the first Comprehensive Calligraphy Exhibition.

1986 Feb

Launched “Igo Kenkyu” (Go Research), a monthly magazine specializing in Go.

1989 Apr

Launched “Shumi no Suibokuga” (Ink Painting as Hobby), a monthly magazine specializing in ink painting.

Established an independent company from Kawagoe distribution center named IMS, Inc.

Completed Headquarters Building in Takadanobaba, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.

Completed the Mejiro Building in Toshima-ku, Tokyo.

Started operation of nursing home.

Established U-CAN CHINA Inc. as a joint venture company in Chengdu Sichuan, China, as the first step in global business development. Correspondence courses started in Jan 2013.

2013 Nov

Changed the name of U-CAN Mail Order department to COCOCIMO, a new brand, and started new mail-order business.

2014 Oct

Established U-CAN Americas, Inc. in San Jose, CA, U.S. Correspondence education business to start in October of the following year.

2015 Aug

Established a compliance system for the purpose of strengthening information security and crisis management. Established a CSR Committee company-wide.

2016 Jan

Established U-CAN Ad., Inc. to provide advertisement planning and production, and advertising agency business.

2017 Sep

Changed the name of IMS, Inc., a logistics business affiliate, to U-CANLOGI, Inc.

Sep

President Taiichi Shinagawa served as an expert member on the “Council for Designing 100-Year Life Society” (Chairperson: Prime Minister Shinzo Abe) through June 2018.

2018 Sep

Established the President’s Office directly under the administration of the president.

Dissolved U-CAN Learning Support, Inc. and absorbed its business into the Guidance Division.

2019 Feb

TV commercial online-based content delivery business started by U-CAN Ad, Inc.

Introduced the Career Challenge System to match in-house human resources with departments.
